Infographic/Data Visualization | North State Journal: N.C. voting trends infographic

Working at the North State Journal in the months leading up to the 2016 election gave me opportunities to create some data-based infographics. For example, North Carolina was considered a “swing” state in the 2016 election. We collected data from the 2004 and 2012 elections and wanted to show just how delicate the balance was between the state being “red” or “blue”. I thought of creating a heat map that would show the percent change of Democrats and Republicans in each county between those two elections, highlighting the ten counties that swung from majority Republican votes to majority Democratic voters. This way, readers could see the degree to which counties might shift in the upcoming election.
